State School Board Rejects Governor’s Order to Postpone Start of School

July 22, 2020

KSBOE 5-5 vote rejects Governor Kelly’s executive order 20-58 to postpone the start of school. The motion to approve required 6 affirmative votes to pass. This vote leaves the decision to when school can start to local authorities. At this point in time, student’s first day of classes in USD 303 will be August 24.
During the regular July Board Meeting, the USD 303 BOE voted to move the start of the school year to the 24th giving staff additional  time to plan for the year.
The USD 303 Back to School Task Force has met twice as they work to develop a plan. The Task Force has a rough draft developed that takes into account local conditions and the possibility of attendance choice for due to parent concerns. Teachers will be meeting to go over the plan to discuss logistics before the Task Force meets again for final touches. The Task Force’s recommendations will then go to the USD 303 Board of Education for approval at the regular August meeting.
More information will be posted to social media and our website as it becomes available.
