Ness City Junior High Scholars Bowl Results 2025-26

April 10, 2026

What an exciting year full of sharp brains and a lot of growth!! Our Ness City Junior High Scholars Bowl season began on October 27, 2025, at our home meet. We had enough students wanting to try Scholars Bowl that we were able to represent our school with two JV teams and one Varsity team. Our JV teams finished 4-3 and 1-6, while our Varsity team finished 6-1, placing first place.

Our second meet was at Grinnell on November 6, 2025. By the time we made it to this meet, we had eight JV members and six Varsity members. Our JV finished this meet with a record of 4-3, and the Varsity with a 7-0 record, again bringing home gold medals.

Our third meet was at Western Plains-Ransom on November 10, 2025. Our JV struggled a bit with a record of 2-3. The Varsity competed well with a record of 3-1, only losing to Heartland Christian. Again, they were able to earn gold medals.

After a break in the season, we went to Ellis to compete on February 10, 2026. Our JV team members went on to a 2-4 record. The Varsity had a record of 3-2 and earned second place. One of the fun parts of this meet was that, instead of having a “Ghost” round, the team members were able to compete against parents and grandparents who came to cheer them on.

Later that week, we traveled to Ellinwood for their meet. Our JV team record was 3-4, and our Varsity team was 4-2. Again, they were able to bring home a second-place win.

On February 19th, our teams traveled to Wichita County (Leoti) for the sixth meet of the year. Our JV team did very well at this meet. Their record was 6-3. However, this meet was the first time this season that our Varsity team did not medal. They finished with 4-5 record.

After a break for a couple of weeks, our teams headed to La Crosse on March 3rd. Our JV team finished the evening with a 6-1 record, and our Varsity finished with a 3-4 record. This meet consisted mostly of CPL teams, so we knew the league meet would definitely be tough!

On March 10th, we traveled to Otis for the Otis-Bison meet. Our JV team went 4-2. Our Varsity team had a record of 3-4. Again, this meet had incredible competition from schools from our league.

The final meet of the year was the league meet in Chase on March 24th. For this meet, we could only take a Varsity team. This team consisted of five 8th graders who had been a part of the team both years. They were Jordyn Fenley, Ethan Healzer, Jordan Kuehn, Bryson Reinert, and Preston Stenzel. This team had a record of 4-4 for the evening. They had their sights high, but unfortunately came up short of medaling. However, there were many close rounds. They actually did so well that they were nine questions away from being undefeated, with two close rounds against La Crosse and Otis, losing only by one question and Otis by two questions.

The JV consisted of Europa Culver, Gunner Foos, Madison Hardwick, Avery Kuehn, Kellen Pfannenstiel, Brooklyn Overlease, Mollie Tillitson, and Natalie Younger. Their overall record was 31-28. The Varsity members were Jordyn Fenley, Ethan Healzer, Jordan Kuehn, Maddy Randa, Bryson Reinert, and Preston Stenzel. Their overall record for the year was 38-22. In addition, those competing in the first meet were Josie Rebel and Megan Robledo.

Overall, I am very proud of all of these junior high students. While they may not have medaled at every meet, they competed tough. I am especially proud of the seventh graders. They showed so much growth and determination throughout the season. I can not wait to see how they continue to grow and become more confident. The eighth graders continued to amaze me throughout the on their knowledge and honing in on their skillset in particular areas. They know each other’s strengths and play so well as a team. I hope they continue to compete in Scholars Bowl in high school.  I would like to thank the parents for supporting their students this season, as well as parents and grandparents who followed us all over western and central Kansas cheering on our teams.
