Junior High Track and Field

March 22, 2024

Junior High track is off and running!  Twenty five athletes and their coaches have finally started practice!  Representing Ness City this year are Brianna Lopez, Brynlee Pfannenstiel, Carver Kerr, Corinne Younger, Issy Petersilie, Jessica Salazar, Khloe Boese, Lorelei Olson, Maddie Turner, Miranda Morales (awesome manager!) Raylee Young, Sadie Durham, Evelyn Gomez, Kori Whited, Zaylee Lopez, Israel Gozales, Jacob Sutton, Jared Luna, Kasey Kuba, Owen Keener, Brandon Tavarez, Kale Bishop, Sam Liggett, Tage McDonald, Wiliam Castro (not pictured) and Xander Houseman.

Returning for his 8th grade year, Sam Liggitt has expectations to “get 1st in my races, get faster, and run longer distances without getting tired.”  This will be a challenge as Sam will be switching up his events.  As a 7th grader, he threw the discus and shot put.  This year, he will run the 800 meter, 200 meter, and 4X100 relay.  “Practices have been difficult as I’m still building up my endurance.  However, I think our relay team has a ton of potential.  We got speed!”

Two 8th grade girls, Evelyn and Zaylee, are both participating for the first time in junior high track with the idea of “improving athletic skills in order to help other sports.  We want to get faster for volleyball and basketball.”  Evelyn is “looking forward to throwing the shot put and discus.  Although the techniques are hard to remember, I’m trying my best!”  The long jump is one event that taught Zaylee “ that my left foot is my jump foot.  That’s pretty cool!”

Coach Kendra Pfannenstiel said “I'm excited for this group of kids. They all have track experience and have shown up ready to work hard. They prove you can have fun while working hard.  I’m excited to get our track meets started!!”

Other coaches for the junior high team are Coach Younger, Coach Aramendi and Coach Beckman.  Best of luck to our track and field athletes!
