Tiny House Is On The Move--UPDATE
April 25, 2024
Our kids brought home the Ralph Huffman Outstanding Power and Energy Award. Congratulations!!
Mr. Kerr and 9 students will be displaying their tiny house at the Western Kansas Technology Fair in Hays on Friday April 26th. “Multiple Pupil Project” is the category they are hoping to win!
This is the 8th tiny house that Mr. Kerr’s Industrial Arts classes have built. The design came from a collaboration between Mr. Kerr and his students 4 years ago and “it really works well so we kept it.” The 24 foot frame arrives at the beginning of the school year, and 180 days later a fully furnished AirBnB is headed to Sarasota, FL.
When completed, the tiny house will sleep 6 with 2 queen beds (one in a loft area) and a couch that converts to a full size option. There is a 32” shower with all the other bathroom necessities, including hot water!
Being a true hands-on student led project, everything is built or installed by the students. Cabinets, installation, plumbing, electrical, heating, air, exterior siding, roof, painting, and trim work–student led. Approximately 25 students from all of the Industrial Arts classes have contributed to this project.
Sale of the tiny house funds a scholarship for a senior involved in Mr. Kerr’s classes. “A completion of the construction program, an application, and must enter a trade school” are the requirements. Mr. Kerr along with the CTE Career Partner Board select the winner. Mr. Kerr wants people to know “it really is a good scholarship that we offer. I wish more kids would apply for it.”
