Body Walk

March 26, 2024

“Eat Hard. Play Smart”
This past week, Kindergarten through 5th grade students received the opportunity to tour the
human body with the Body Venture experience through KSDE. In this larger than life exhibit,
students got to engage in each of the 11 stations with an activity focused on healthy choicesThe tour began with students entering the
school lunchroom and becoming a food such as a carrot or strawberry. Next, once inside the
brain, students experienced “brain waves” and learned about brain function. The “foods” or
students then stepped into the exhibit’s mouth and are swallowed through the esophagus
tunnel and move into the stomach. From the stomach, the students travel through the small
intestine where they become nutrients that are “absorbed” into the blood stream.

Next, they followed the path of the nutrients into the heart, lungs, bones, muscles and skin
stations. Students left the body through the Pathway to Life station. This final station recapped
key health concepts from each of the 10 previous stations.

Without community support, this event would not have been possible for our students. Thank
you again to the volunteer presenters who made this such an exciting and memorable
educational opportunity and the high school students who helped keep things running
smoothly. (Kira Pfannenstiel, Shelby Flax, Kari Mellies, Tiffany Overlease, Sara Corsair, Emily
Parsons, Megan Horchem, Katie Collette, Madison Bauer, MaKenna Fritts, Carrie Beutler, Cathy
Sutton, Merit Carter, William Childers, Alexis Gabel and Hannah Younger).

Standing around 15’ tall when fully inflated, it was no easy task to put up and connect all 5 walls
of the exhibit. A huge thank you to our setup and take down crews; Mr. Cowles and his 4th and
7th hour weight class students, Mr. Flax, Gary Richard from the maintenance department,
Myron Seib & Blake McVicker of Lane Scott Electric and Colby Gantz & Randy Winter of D.E.
Bondurant for helping with this feat!

Lastly, a special thank you to our sponsors; Farm Bureau Financial Services-Morgan Flax Agency
and the Ness County 4H Council for bringing this to the community for both Ness City
Elementary and Sacred Heart Catholic School students.
