Meet Mrs.Crystal Dorn
September 03, 2024
Mrs. Crystal Dorn is the new 7th-12th Special Education teacher. This is her 1st year as a teacher but she has 6 years as a special education para. A graduate of Fort Hays State with an education degree, Mrs. Dorn “always enjoyed working with kids. It wasn’t until 5 years ago that I decided to start my journey, however, I had some wonderful teachers to admire. My middle school science teacher Mrs. Herrman played a vital role in making me feel comfortable and safe when I struggled. My high school English teacher Mrs. Braun, even though she wasn’t aware of it, I looked up to her. Ms. Bernbeck was an eye-opening inspiration. I have never learned so much about history in my life! She truly has a way of teaching every kid that comes through her room and it is phenomenal.”
“My very own supervisor when I started working in education, was Mrs. Foos. She put a whole new perspective on being a teacher. She believed in me and encouraged me to get through the semesters when I would start to self-doubt. Even after I had moved on from being a para, she stayed in touch. She was and still is a big part of my life. These were the inspiration for becoming a teacher. Now that I am a teacher at USD 303, even in just this short period I can tell you that I have never felt more welcomed into a work environment. Now as I observe some of the teachers inside their classrooms, I find more inspiration for what kind of teacher I desire to become.”
Mrs. Dorn is married with three kids: a senior, a junior, and an 8th grader. We have three dogs and two kittens. During her spare time, she likes reading (Fredia McFadden, Emily Henry, Lurlene McDaniel), fishing, and spending time with family.
