Cross Country kicks off their season Thursday Sept 4

September 03, 2025

Both the junior and senior high school cross country teams will begin their season Thursday Sept 4th against some very competitive teams at the Great Bend Country Club (22 schools). High school will run first starting at 9:00 am.  Junior high will start at 1:00 pm.  This year's Eagle teams will have strong leadership with experienced seniors and juniors to set the pace.

One senior is Wyatt.  He would like to set a personal record (PR) a couple of times throughout the season, showing improvement with each race.  As a team, Wyatt would like “to place in the top 3 at state” and “improve split time between the 1st and 5th runner”.

Another senior hoping to have a successful season is Broxton.  He would like to “break the long standing school record of 16:13”. For this 1st meet, Broxton is wanting to get a “good PR time to set the tone for his season.  Winning state is the ultimate goal for the team.”

Fourth year participant Ethan is “excited for his senior year with a team goal to place at state!  This first meet is going to be tough with major competition from bigger schools.”  Ethan would like to run PR times “in the mid 18 minute mark, consistent in the lower 18 by the end of the year.”

Hunter (junior) thinks this 1st meet will be a challenge as there is “a lot of competition, a lot of big schools that will push us”.  An individual goal Hunter has is to “take the season as it goes”.

Joining the girls team this year is senior Taegin.  She admits “nerves are there” for this 1st meet, however, “we have a good group of girls that will be competitive at each meet.”  Taegin is looking to "open the season with a good time.”  The best advice she received is “the 2nd mile is the hardest!”

Good luck to all of the Ness City runners, along with Coach Younger and Coach Flax, as they start this season!
