Golf Team Takes 3rd at Plainville

May 03, 2024

Golf Brings Home a Trophy. Thursday the golf team traveled to Plainville to compete against 14 schools (67 golfers) and the weather.

Coach Torrez thought  “the course was wet and windy, however, our golfers competed well.  This was the first moisture we encountered this season, which makes the game more interesting.  There were no sand traps but a couple of ponds to contend with along the way.  The slopes of the greens were also very tricky. Our season is winding down and we are getting ready for league in Dodge City then regionals in Atwood."

Broxton shot an 84 to win 1st place. Tyler got 7th with a 91.  Braddix (108), Ashlyn (110), Isaiah (111) and Summer (126) rounded out the team.

According to Braddix, the "morning was beautiful. But then the wind picked up. The competition was very challenging as there were a lot of 2A and 3A schools there. Each group seemed to be very solid. After the front nine, we were leading as a team. But the back nine, we fell to 3rd place." Broxton agreed with his teammate saying "the weather was nice."

One tradition at this tournament involves a suit. The winner--Broxton--received a gray jacket and pants for placing 1st overall. It is his to keep. "Right now, it is hanging in my room but I plan on wearing it soon." (He is wearing the suit in the picture.)

To end the season, Broxton's goal is "medal at league and qualify as a team for state." Braddix is "looking forward to playing against some good competition in Dodge. It's going to be a tough course with lots of hills. And make state as a team. That would be cool."

Congratulations on this victory and good luck heading into post season play.
